  • Will the examination hurt?

Dr. Clagett and his team are as gentle as possible. The initial periodontal exam is completed with little/no discomfort.

  • Do I need to take any X-rays?

In order to make an appropriate assessment of your health, Dr. Clagett requires current periodontal X-rays in order to have visibility of any disease that is not otherwise visible. If X-rays have already been taken by your referring dentist, you may request that your x-rays be emailed to us. Please note that Dr. Clagett may need to take images in addition to the ones that your dentist sends us.

  • What will be the cost of the treatment?

Since every patient is different, Dr. Clagett will first complete your examination before establishing a treatment plan for you and the fee for care. He will discuss the options that are available and the related fees. Fees for implant or periodontal treatment can vary, depending on the complexity of the treatment. In many cases, you will be provided cost of the treatment at the initial visit; however, in some instances, further diagnostics or some initial treatment must be completed before the final treatment plan and cost can be accurately established. We will always discuss the cost of the treatment before beginning any procedure.

  • Is financing for dental implants?

We offer flexible financial arrangements that help our patients manage the investment in dental implants. Our Financial Coordinator will discuss the cost of your treatment plan with you and work to develop a financial plan that works for your budget.

  • Will the cost of the treatment be covered by my insurance?

Many dental insurance policies offer benefits for implant and periodontal treatment. Please bring all your cards and insurance benefit information when you visit our office for your examination appointment. We will file your claim electronically with your insurance provider on the day of your visit. We will make every attempt to help you obtain your maximum reimbursement from your benefits plan.

  • Will I need surgery?

Dr. Clagett’s goal is to provide you the dental health you need using the best treatment option. Not all of our patients need periodontal surgery. For example, if treated in time, gum disease can often be controlled without any surgical intervention. Dr. Clagett will make recommendations based on your specific situation.

  • Will it be possible to save my teeth?

In many cases, yes. Modern advancements in periodontal treatment allow Dr. Clagett to successfully treat many different problems. He can accurately determine the best way for you to have optimal health. If possible, it is best to keep your natural teeth. After your initial examination, Dr. Clagett can explain what you best options are.

  • When will I be able to resume treatment with my general dentist?

Your treatment is a joint effort between our office and your dentist. You will continue to see your dentist for maintenance and exams, as well as any restorative care that you need throughout the course of your treatment in our office. Regular exams and cleanings are an important aspect of periodontal maintenance.

  • What will happen if I don’t get gum treatment?

Normally with periodontal disease, you don’t feel any pain as the disease gets worse. As periodontal disease progresses, you may experience bone loss. The longer you wait for treatment, the more bone will be lost, which means more treatment and expense. Untreated gum disease can cause you to lose your teeth.
