Dental implants are the latest tooth replacement system available to men and women in Kentucky who have loose or missing teeth. Instead of being forced to choose between temporary, fragile tooth replacement options like dentures and bridges, patients are able to regain oral function and restore their smiles when they choose dental implants with Dr. Clagett of Clagett Periodontics.
At his Kentucky practice, Dr. Clagett offers patients years of experience customizing dental implant treatments to fit the specific needs of each patient he sees. He is board-certified and holds many other credentials, making him the ideal choice for the placement of dental implants.
The Ins and Outs of Dental Implants
Dental implants are small titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots. By restoring jawbone stimulation, they strengthen and preserve the jawbone, helping to keep its shape and structure.
After dental implants have been placed, an abutment will be attached, and a prosthetic tooth crown will be placed on top of the abutment. Each crown is specifically designed to match each patient’s existing teeth; therefore, patients are left with a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing smile. And because the crown is attached to the permanent dental implants, it is as strong (or stronger) than natural teeth.
You’ll experience no restrictions with dental implants. Kentucky patients are able to speak normally and eat and drink anything they choose—even popcorn and peanut brittle!
The Dental Implants Procedure
Depending on the type of dental implants you receive, you should expect your dental implants placement process to include several visits. But trust us—the wait is worth it!
Your consultation with Dr. Clagett
Before you choose to have dental implants placed, you will first visit with Dr. Clagett in his Kentucky office for a thorough consultation. During this appointment, he will evaluate your mouth and determine whether or not you are a good candidate for dental implants. If you are, he will work with you to develop a treatment plan to suit your needs and desired results.
Pre-surgeries
If you do not have adequate gum tissue, jawbone tissue, or you require upper dental implants and they risk impacting your sinus cavity, you may require pre-surgeries before your dental implants can be placed. These pre-surgeries could include a gum graft, bone graft, or sinus lift.
Dental implant placement
Once you become ready to receive your dental implants, Dr. Clagett will surgically place them into your jawbone. You will be required to heal after this procedure to ensure your implants properly fuse to your jawbone. After your healing process, you will receive your final set of permanent teeth!
Dental Implants Recovery
When your dental implants have been placed, you should expect to experience minor discomfort. However, because Dr. Clagett uses minimally invasive techniques and the latest technology available, any discomfort you experience can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. You may also notice some minor swelling and bleeding upon leaving Dr. Clagett’s office. This is normal, and these side effects should resolve within a day or two.
After he has placed the dental implants, Dr. Clagett will place a temporary crown on top so you will have a functional tooth while you recover from your procedure. However, this crown will not be as strong as your final crowns, so be sure to take precautionary measures during your recovery to protect your gums and jawbone.
